The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse by Charlie Macksey
"Is your glass half empty or half full?" asked the mole.
"I think I'm grateful to have a glass," said the boy."
- Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse
The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse is a timeless novel for any age. There is a reason why it is Barnes and Noble's Book of the Year.
This book is unique for multiple reasons. Mackesy's storytelling, world-building, writing style, and characters are an unlikely combination, but it works.
The illustrations construct the world while the text tells the story. This story is so unique because most of the book is just small quotes and quiet moments, but it still tells a story.
Until you read the book for yourself, the "plot" is difficult to explain, but it is a story of self-discovery and understanding.
My favorite part, besides the illustrations, is the fantastic quotes uttered by The Mole. I thought he was funny and serious at the same time.
I didn't have a least favorite part. I only wish this book was longer so I could keep reading!
I give The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse 5 out of 5 stars. If I could give it 10/5 stars, I would. This book is anyone and everyone. If you enjoy self-help books, picture books, light-hearted books, or just reading in general, this book is for you.
